Sauna Room Guide · Specification research, not hands-on testing · 2026-10-29
Separate indoor classification from actual room conditions
A garage may be fully enclosed while still experiencing outdoor temperature swings, dampness and wind when the main door opens. Write down what the proposed corner is like at the times you plan to use it. Include nearby stored materials and whether the space can remain accessible without moving the sauna.
The Equinox owner manual specifies an indoor, dry, temperature-controlled and ventilated setting. A proposed garage needs to be assessed against those conditions; its postal address or roof is not the deciding evidence. Ask the manufacturer to confirm the location for the exact model instead of relying on a general internet statement that garages are acceptable.

Cold surroundings change the planning assumptions
The same owner manual lists cold or unheated surroundings among reasons a cabin heats slowly. This does not establish a universal minimum garage temperature or a guaranteed warm-up time. It tells you to check whether your actual environment is within the product’s instructions and how performance expectations change there.
A cost comparison can also change if you need longer preheat, room conditioning or another location. Keep these assumptions visible. Do not extend a session or modify the cabin to compensate for cold conditions based on a sizing article. Obtain the manufacturer’s operating limits and use the energy tool to explore a clearly labelled scenario.

Plan the occupied garage, not an empty floor photograph
Measure with the garage in normal use: vehicle positions, doors, shelving and storage all affect access. Mark the sauna’s front, the roof connection area and the route to the electrical disconnect. An exterior rectangle drawn over a photograph does not account for a moving garage door or an area used for storage.
Keep materials that the manual identifies as unsuitable near the sauna out of the plan, and have site-specific requirements checked before ordering. This guide does not determine a garage’s local permissions, separation requirements or electrical installation. Give the relevant professionals the layout and exact model documents rather than a generic capacity label.
Do not substitute a cover for a different product rating
An outdoor model and an indoor model are different configurations in the directory. The Luminar examples have their own published outdoor installation and maintenance requirements. They are not simply an Equinox with a cover. Moving from an indoor candidate to an outdoor one can change the supply, foundation and service-access questions.
If the garage does not meet an indoor model’s stated conditions, compare acceptable locations before buying accessories. A heater, improvised enclosure or cover should not be presented as an automatic way to make an otherwise unsuitable site comply.
| Observation | Useful next step |
|---|---|
| Room conditions fit the model instructions | Confirm layout, clearances and supply |
| Room conditions are unknown | Measure or obtain a model-specific written answer |
| Indoor instructions are not met | Compare a different approved location or model |
| A cover is proposed as the solution | Ask whether the exact installation is authorised; do not assume |
Send a garage-specific question to the seller
A useful request describes the garage as it is, including whether it is heated, how dry it stays, the proposed wall materials and the room available above and behind the cabinet. Include photos for the seller privately if useful; Sauna Room Guide does not require you to upload them.
Ask which operating and storage conditions apply, whether the location affects support or warranty, and which manual revision governs the shipment. Save the response with the quotation. Your shortlist can then distinguish a documented condition from a sales reassurance that does not address the actual garage.
The local records behind these examples
